What Is Conduction Error In Temperature Sensor Reading?
Overview
Conduction error is a fault in a temperature sensor reading when heat is conducted along the temperature sensor body. The most common reason for conduction error is inadequate immersion into the application. Causes
- Partial immersion of the sensor into the process medium.
- Heat transfer along the sensor sheath rather than through the sensing junction.
- Incorrect installation or insufficient thermal contact.
Mitigation
Conduction error can be reduced by:
- Ensuring proper immersion depth of the sensor.
- Using appropriate sensor sheath materials to minimize heat transfer along the body.
- Installing thermal barriers or insulation to isolate the sensor from unwanted heat paths.
